Women's Soccer Toppled by CCNY

Box Score

YONKERS, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College soccer was defeated by City College of New York, 5-0, in a non-conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park on Monday.

CCNY (3-2) struck first blood in the fifth minute when Taylor Jo Gillen broke through the Gryphon back line and lifted a shot over SLC keeper Adin Rosenberg; Rosenberg would tally 10 saves in the game.

Late in the first half, Sarah Lawrence (0-4) had a chance to tie the game when Shannon Sullivan (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Regional) broke through the middle, but CCNY keeper Nicole Carroll came off the line and stymied the scoring chance.

In the 40th minute, the deficit doubled when the Gryphon back line failed to clear the ball, which ended up in the net for an own goal.

The second half proved difficult for the Green and White offense, as SLC was held without a shot. In the 80th minute, Jasmine Campbell corralled a pass from Yanique Newman and found the back of the net to give the Beavers a 3-0 advantage.

Emily Ramos capitalized on a Gillen corner kick in the 86th minute, and 30 seconds later, Newman netted the game's final goal in the 5-0 win for the visitors.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Saturday. The Gryphons travel to face their first Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, The King's College, for a 5 p.m. game at Randall's Island. SLC then makes a quick turnaround to host ACPHS at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
