BROOKLYN, NY – After 45 minutes of play, the St. Joseph's College men's soccer team trailed by only one goal, but a second half surge from Brooklyn College handed the Bears a 7-0 defeat on a rainy Wednesday night at Kingsborough Community College.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the 7th minute after a Cheyne Tribbey shot bounced off a Bears defender and past the diving freshman goalie, Michael Miner (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus). But that would be all the scoring in the opening frame as Miner made seven saves to keep St. Joseph's in the game.
Brooklyn College (2-10-2) built a two-goal advantage early in the second stanza, scoring in the 46th minute on a Miguel Veliz-Fitz goal from Lindsay Hernandez. The Bulldogs would tack on insurance goals in the 62nd, 66th and 69th minutes to build before finishing with a six-goal half.
The Bears saw limited scoring opportunities against the Bulldog defense, managing five shots with senior Nick Polo (Madrid, Spain/Millennium HS) recording three shots and freshman Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) adding two. Miner finished the game with 14 saves on the evening facing 35 shots from the Bulldog offense.
Hernandez led Brooklyn finishing with a pair of goals and an assist. Anthony Sideris, Brandon Sewnath, and Chavel Harrison were the other goal scorers for the Bulldogs.
St. Joseph's (1-8, 1-4 HVMAC) returns to action on Saturday, October 22 resuming conference play travelling to Bronxville, NY to face Sarah Lawrence College. Game time is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
