On the first day of the 2013 SLC Volleyball Invitational, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball lost in straight-sets to The King's College and Manhattanville College at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday. The Gryphons stand in fourth-place midway through the two-day event.

Sarah Lawrence (1-8, 1-2 HVIAC) began the day with a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against King's (1-7, 1-3 HVIAC). In the first set, a 10-3 run gave the Lions a 19-7 lead, which quickly ballooned to a 13-point advantage at 21-8 en route to a 25-12 set.

King's led wire-to-wire in the second set, winning five of the first six points and nine of the final 10 in a 25-11 set. The Gryphons won the first two points of the third set, but TKC pulled away by an 11-5 margin. The Green and White closed the gap to three at 13-10, but the Lions' momentum carried the visitors to a 25-13 win to clinch the 3-0 sweep.

SLC's Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) landed nine kills to lead the Gryphons; she also notched six digs in the match. Setter Janet Tonyan (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) assisted on 12 kills, picked up four digs and led the team with two service aces. Rookie Lin Zhu (Chengdu, China/Chengdu No. 7) anchored the defense with nine digs.

For King's, Hannah Eckart recorded match-highs with 10 kills and eight service aces, while Alexandra Rollis led all players with 11 digs. Setter Jessie Schnoebelen assisted on 21 kills.

In the Gryphons' second match, SLC squared off against Manhattanville (9-5). The Green and White built their largest lead of the day at 15-11, but Valiant Susy Camaj came to serve and landed six service aces to erase the deficit and lead Manhattanville to a 25-18 opening set.

Six second-set service aces from Camaj set the tone early in the second set. Manhattanville sprinted to an 11-2 lead and cruised to a 25-11 set. The Valiants went in front for the entire third set and closed out the match with a 25-15 stanza.

Valiants Alyssa Taylor and Alissa Primavera led the match with 10 kills apiece. Camaj finished with 13 aces, while setter Megan Quinabo assisted 26 points. Quinabo and Alyssa Casino each notched a match-high six digs.

On SLC's side of the net, the Gryphons were held to just 12 kills with four by O'Sullivan. Tonyan had 11 assists, while rookie Clarisse Taboy (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/George School) tallied four aces and first-year player Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) recorded her first career block.
