Huskies Open 2023/24 Men's Basketball

POTTERSVILLE, NY - - The Word of Life Huskies played as the host to the 2023/24 ADK Season Tipoff on Friday and Saturday night. During the first game Friday night, North Country handed a big loss to Paul Smith's College 98-53. The Huskies then played Clinton Community College Cougars to wrap up the Friday night doubleheader. In a tight game early on, the Cougars would start to pull away late in the first half and take a 35-25 lead into halftime. The Huskies tried to come back, but the Cougars would be too much for Word of Life as they took a 76-58 win. The Huskies' key contributors were T.J. Gibson who scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Travis Shearin with 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Branden Dugger with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Head Coach Justin Cousins had this to say for postgame remarks. "Tough fought home opener for our guys. (I) Loved the energy that they came out with. Thankful to the fans for showing up and being loud. We knew the size and strength of the opponent was going to be a key factor, and over time that just proved to be a little much for us tonight. But I loved how the guys kept fighting to try and get back in it. All in all, we just couldn't get it under 10 in the crucial moments of the game. We play a long season and we are going to be just fine. We'll learn and get better. On to tomorrow!"
