MADISON, N.J.—Highlighted by an SLC record by Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes), Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming finished the weekend in second place at the 2013 Ranger Invitational, hosted by Drew University at F.M. Kirby Pool, December 6-8.

With 193 points, SLC trailed only host Drew (353 points); College of Saint Elizabeth (139), Cedar Crest College (63), College of New Rochelle (62) and Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham (11) rounded out the field.

The evening's championship session began with Gryphon junior Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) swimming to fourth place (20:34.23) in the 1650 yard freestyle, nearly missing her own team record.

In the 200 yard backstroke, sophomore Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) took third place with a mark of 2:35.82. Classmate Monika Mednick (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) also qualified for the final and placed sixth in 2:48.78.

Rookie Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) was SLC's lone representative in the 100 yard freestyle final. She just missed the one-minute mark, touching the wall in 1:00.03 for fifth place in the event.

Pulitano's record-breaking swim came in the 200 yard breaststroke, as the junior won the event in 2:52.33, nearly two seconds faster than the previous program record. Teammate Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) finished runner-up in the race, posting a mark of 2:54.53. In the same heat, Alayna Bone (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) took sixth place (3:05.68) and Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i/Kealakehe) added a team point for eighth place (3:10.33).

The Gryphons won their second-straight race when Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) beat the field in the 200 yard butterfly with a meet-record time of 2:30.40. Senior Dzana Ashworth (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) placed fifth (3:09.83) in the final, while rookie Lydia Mullan (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) qualified and placed seventh (3:23.77).

The three-day meet concluded with the 400 yard freestyle relay. Four different Green and White squads placed in the event, led by foursome Quirk, Bates, Harley, and Risica in second place (4:09.51).

Sarah Lawrence swimming concludes the semester with two meets this week. The Gryphons will travel to The College at Old Westbury on Thursday, and they will face Purchase College at Bard College on Saturday.
