Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University men's volleyball made it six victories in as many Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) regular-season matches in 2013 on Thursday night at Brooklyn Tech High School, as the Maccabees survived four match points in the fifth set by host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn to capture a five-set triumph (20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 19-17).
YU (10-16, 6-0 HVMAC), winners of six straight overall heading into the holiday break, nearly got a triple-double from senior co-captain, outside hitter
Jared Rechnitz (Los Angeles, Calif.), as he picked up 15 kills (.250 hitting pct.), 13 digs and a match- and Macs season-best nine service aces. Senior middle blocker
Daniel Lapson (Skokie, Ill.) hit .321 with 13 kills and two blocks (one solo), while senior co-captain
Elchanan Margolis (Toronto, Ont.) reached 20-plus digs for the second time in three matches with 21 passes. Freshman
Jorge Dabah (Miami, Fla.; 40 assists, nine digs) finished one dig shy of a double-double in his first college start in the setter position, while sophomore opposite
Eliakim Gartenberg (Teaneck, N.J.) added a season-best seven kills on offense.
Head coach Arnold Ross's Yeshiva side is now off for the holiday break, and returns to action April 7, for a pair of Skyline Conference matches at New Jersey City University. The Maccabees will take on the host Gothic Knights at 12 noon, before squaring off with College of Mount Saint Vincent at 2 p.m.
