Men's Volleyball Dismissed by Yeshiva

NEW YORK—In the Gryphons' first league match of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball fell to Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) opponent Yeshiva University, 3-0, at Max Stern Athletic Center on Tuesday.

Yeshiva (2-4, 1-0 HVMAC) went on a 12-0 run to break open a 15-3 advantage over the Gryphons en route to a 25-6 win in the opening set.

Trailing 14-2 in the second set, Sarah Lawrence (0-3, 0-1 HVMAC) found its footing to string together a 6-1 run to narrow the gap. Despite a 4-0 run by the Green and White late in the set, Yeshiva won the second, 25-13.

The final set saw Sarah Lawrence jump out to a 3-0 lead and string together three straight points to go in front, 6-3. Reigning HVMAC Player of the Week Harrison Holmes (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Webb) followed a kill with a service ace to retake an edge at 8-7, but the Maccabees managed seven unanswered points to take the lead for good, clinching the match with a 25-18 set.

Holmes totaled eight kills on the day, while setter Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M., Idyllwild Arts Academy) contributed nine assists. Sophomore Riley Smith (West Linn, Ore., Palo Alto (Calif.)) led Sarah Lawrence with eight digs, and four Gryphons contributed on the blocking front.

Sarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville and the Campbell Sports Center for its home opener on Saturday. The Gryphons host Wells College for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
