Lapson, Men's Volleyball Remain Undefeated in HVMAC with Five-Set Thriller at Sarah Lawrence

Daniel Lapson hit .609 against the host Gryphons in the opener on Sunday, to go along with an .800 percentage (4-0-5) in the teams' first meeting of the season on Feb. 5.

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Senior middle blocker Daniel Lapson (Skokie, Ill.) hit an error-free .609 (14-0-23) Sunday afternoon at Noyes Court, as the Yeshiva University men's volleyball team came back from one set down on two separate occasions to remain undefeated in Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) action to take down host Sarah Lawrence College in the front end of a tri-match, 3-2 (20-25, 25-12, 17-25, 27-25, 15-9).

In the nightcap, the Macs fell in non-conference play to Berkeley College of New Jersey, 3-1 (25-12, 13-25, 17-25, 19-25).

Lapson (two blocks; one solo) joined fellow Ida Crown Jewish Academy alumnus, junior middle blocker Menachem Goldstein (Chicago, Ill.; three assisted blocks) with 14 kills against the host Gryphons in the opener, while senior captain Elchanan Margolis (Toronto, Ont.; match-high 16 digs) joined sophomore back-row player, Ronan Weinberg Waks (Buenos Aires, Argentina) with a match-high three service aces apiece. Junior setter Adam Rhodes (Los Angeles, Calif.) dished out 26 assists and added eight digs for YU in the opener.

In the four-set defeat at the hands of the Knights, Lapson hit .391 with an 11-2-23 attack line to lead the Maccabees. Margolis nearly posted a double-double with eight kills and nine digs, while Goldstein floored eight winners in the front row. Freshman back-row player, Jorge Dabah (Miami, Fla.) led YU with four service aces.

Head coach Arnold Ross's Yeshiva (4-16, 3-0 HVMAC) side is back in non-conference action Tuesday night (Mar. 12), when it travels to Brooklyn, N.Y., for an 8 p.m. match at Medgar Evers College.
