Women's Tennis Knocks Off York, 9-0

JAMAICA, N.Y.—
Snapping a four-game skid, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis overpowered York College (N.Y.), 9-0, in a non-conference match at York College Courts on Tuesday.

In doubles play, Sarah Lawrence (4-5) captured all three points, yielding just four games total. SLC junior Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) returned from a two-week absence to partner with Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and capture the top pairs point, 8-4.

At No. 2 doubles, 2012 HVWAC Champions Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) swept their opponents, 8-0, for their third win of the season. Rookies Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) improved their record to 8-0 on the year by winning the No. 3 match, coincidentally, 8-0.

York (1-7) was not availed in singles play. The Gryphons captured all six points, including seven 6-0 sets. Landes and Pincus captured the top two singles positions by identical margins of 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 3 singles match, Atkinson won her second double-bagel match of the season, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Rookie Sarah Pyatt (Taos, N.M./Taos) stepped into the lineup to win the No. 4 singles match, 6-0, 6-2. HVIAC Honor Roll selection Moni Spancheska (Skopje, Macedonia/NOVA International) won her fourth straight by sweeping the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-0. Rounding out the day, senior Cecilia Ross (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 spot to clinch the Sarah Lawrence sweep.

Sarah Lawrence faces Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Pratt Institute in a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Gryphons are then scheduled to return home to host College of New Rochelle at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
