BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In SLC's first home contest of the academic year, Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis triumphed with a 7-2 victory over Keystone College in a non-conference match at Andrews Courts on Tuesday.
In doubles, SLC's No. 3 rookies Autumn Atkinson (Manasquan, N.J./George School) and Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) blanked their Keystone foes, 8-0, in their first intercollegiate match. The No. 1 match saw sophomore Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif./Cleveland Humanities Magnet) and junior Kayla Pincus (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) pick up an 8-2 victory.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomores Sarah Fiordaliso (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) picked up from last season with an 8-6 win to round out the pairs sweep.
In individual action, Atkinson won her second match of the day with a shutout in the No. 6 match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Pincus had the honor of clinching the Gryphons' team victory with her second win, a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles.
Keystone's KateLynn Stricker put the Giants on the scoreboard with a win by retirement (6-4) in the No. 4 position. Jackie Murray soon followed with a win in a hard-fought 7-6(7-5), 7-6(7-5), No. 5 match.
SLC's No. 1 Landes took an early lead and kept control through a 6-4, 6-4 win, and Fiordaliso rounded out the day with a 7-5, 7-5 win in the No. 3 match.
Sarah Lawrence plays its next match at home on Friday. The Gryphons are set to host Cooper Union at Andrews Courts at 7 p.m.
