Men's Soccer Falls to NYU-Poly

Box Score
YONKERS, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer fell to NYU Polytechnic, 7-0, in a non-conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park on Wednesday.

Sarah Lawrence (3-12) recorded the first shot on the day off of forward Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) on a free kick, his first of two shots on goal in the period.

NYU-Poly (1-12-1) got on the scoreboard in the 13th minute when Carlos Fidalgo broke loose in the SLC backfield and netted his fourth goal of the season.

SLC missed an opportunity in the 20th minute, when forward Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) faced a one-on-one situation with NYU-Poly goalkeeper Rishi Sarkar. Under pressure, Pujari drove the ball into the offensive penalty area, but Sarkar came off his line and deflected the effort. As Pujari's shot dribbled toward an empty net, the Fighting Blue Jay back line crashed the net and successfully rejected the attempt.

In the 27th minute, a Gryphon foul yielded a penalty kick for NYU-Poly's Andres Torres, but the shot was high off the crossbar, and SLC preserved a 1-0 deficit heading into halftime.

SLC managed only three shots in the second half, two off the foot of Tahmid Munat (Dhaka, Bangladesh/Notre Dame). Senior captain Aman Banerji (New Delhi, India/The Shri Ram School) also recorded a strike but missed the frame wide left.

Poly's scoring spree began in the 50th minute, when Torres served up a corner kick and found the head of Paul Lima, who netted his first goal of the season. Torres added a score of his own in the 53rd minute.

Leading 3-0, Fidalgo scored his second goal of the day in the 59th minute. After Matthew Burke got on the scoresheet in the 67th minute, Fidalgo rounded out his hat trick in the 70th minute. Burke went on to add a second goal to round out the 7-0 victory for previously-winless NYU-Poly.

Sarkar earned the win and had four saves on the day. SLC's Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) recorded one save, and relief goalkeeper Jeff Bernstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Buckley School) also notched one save.

Sarah Lawrence is set to play its final home game on Saturday, when the Gryphons will host Fisher College (Mass.) at 3 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
