Women's Soccer Salutes Seniors with a Win

The King's College Women's Soccer team defeated the Pratt Cannoneers 1-0 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island in New York City. The day marked the final game in New York City for six senior Lady Lions: Rebekah Lambdin, Kathryn Brooks, Corinne Boonstra, Christina Lewis, Annie Kopack, and Leah Thomas.

Junior Bailey Kaufman was brilliant in goal for King's as she made 18 saves to preserve the shutout for her teammates. Pratt had a 29-12 advantage in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. But the King's defense of Kopack, Brooks, and Thomas along with Laurie Ann Lopez, Tarra Snyder, and Eleanor Davis would not break.

The midfield contingent of Boonstra, Lambdin, Lewis, Kaitlyn Simon, Emily Smyth, and Breanna Valdes was also responsible defensively while also generating some offense with Isabella Schade up at forward.

Freshman Hailey Hirst provided some firepower off the bench contributing 6 shots, 5 of them on target. But her final strike found the back of the net in the 89th minute of the game. This gave King's the dramatic last minute victory and a memory the seniors can hold onto forever.

NEXT UP: The Lady Lions will wrap up their season tomorrow in upstate NY as they take on Word of Life Bible Institute.
