BROOKLYN – Down by as many as 13 points in the second half, the Pratt Cannoneers rallied to force overtime before falling to the Falcons of Davis College, 79-68, in their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Friday evening at the ARC.
"Tough one tonight, losing to a talented Davis squad in OT," head coach Max Sass said following the game. "I'm proud how resilient and tough the guys played in the second half. Really played their best second half of the season. We lost our poise a little in overtime and they made some big shots, but I feel great going forward."
Senior guard Andrew Yaglenski's season-high 29 points led the way for the Cannoneers, while Akil Philip and Tytus Millikan added 17 and 15, respectively.
The Falcons were paced by Anthony Gathings' 35 point, 14 rebound double-double and Ben Waterman's 25 points.
As a team, Pratt shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the field, including a season-best 42.3 percent (11-26) from beyond the arc. The Cannoneers also received a major boost from their reserves, holding a 22-10 advantage in bench scoring.
Trailing by 13 points early in the second half, Yaglenski's layup began the Cannoneer comeback, as Pratt would outscore Davis 22-9 over the next 7:08 to tie the score at 46-46. The Falcons would build their lead back to six points, 63-57, but Chris Harding's jumper, coupled with back-to-back threes from Philip and Yaglenski, tied the score at 65-65. Millikan's defensive rebound, followed by a Pratt timeout, gave the Cannoneers possession and a chance to win it in regulation. However, Millikan's 3-pointer just missed the mark, while Hamza Hamdeh's put back came after time expired.
In the extra frame, Pratt was unable to continue their momentum – struggling from the field and committing costly turnovers. The Falcons would hit five free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
UP NEXT – The Cannoneers return to the ARC for an HVIAC clash against the Panthers of Albany Pharmacy on Sunday, February 3. Tipoff is slated for 3:00pm.
