ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of New Rochelle freshman Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, Calif.) was named Player of the Year and classmate Cesar Rodriguez (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named Rookie of the Year as the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the members of the 2016 All-HVIAC Men’s Soccer Team at the conclusion of the HVIAC Tournament.
Garcia led the conference in most offensive categories scoring 14 goals and nine assists leading the Blue Angels to an unblemished mark in league play and the regular season title in their first year in the league. The four-time weekly award winner–twice Player and twice Rookie–entered the tournament with 27 goals and 18 assists–the NCAA Division III leader in goals, assists and points.
Rodriguez scored eight of his 10 goals on the season in league play, scoring the game-winner against Albany Pharmacy and Webb. The one-time Rookie of the Week also recorded five of his 10 assists against conference opponents.
SUNY ESF head coach Dan Ramin was named Coach of the Year, an honor he shared last year and an honor he also collected on the women's side. Ramin led the Mighty Oaks to an 8-4-1 record overall entering the weekend and a Top 10 national ranking in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
In total, 20 men were honored with the All-HVIAC recognition for outstanding play throughout the season and seven were repeat winners.
The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year are selected by the conference’s men’s soccer coaches based on regular season conference play.
