MILTON, N.Y. – Led by overall individual champion Mark McClenahan, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry posted a perfect score to capture the 2017 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.
The Mighty Oaks had eight harriers in the top 10 and 12 earned medalist honors to win the team title for the third straight season.
Despite a steady rain throughout the race, freshman McClenahan covered the 8-kilometer course in 28:22 to win the individual title and was later named Runner of the Year in post-race ceremonies. Following McClenahan were Tom Keenan (28:36) and Anders Proft (28:50) and juniors Ethan Appelgren (28:57) and Peter Rawinski (29:36) to complete the perfect score of 15 as just 1:14 separated the Mighty Oaks first and fifth runners.
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences sophomore Colin Sirard (29:59, 7th) and freshman Kevin Le (30:47, 10th) earned top 10 finishes to lead the Panthers (84 points) to runner-up honors for the fifth straight year. Pratt Institute (96 points) came in third place, followed by The King's College (115 points), Vaughn College (129 points), Berkeley College (131 points), The Culinary Institute of America (146 points) and The College of New Rochelle (216 points) in the team competition.
