Tournament Most Valuable Player

Kaiylin Burud • College of Mount Saint Vincent
Senior • Guard • Red Hook, NY (Red Hook HS)

It’s safe to say that Mount Saint Vincent senior Kaitlin Burud could do no wrong during the HVWAC Basketball playoffs as she notched two doubledoubles and led the Dolphins to two double-digit wins en route to their second consecutive HVWAC Tournament crown. For her efforts, Burud was named HVWAC Championship Game MVP. After a 17-point, 10-rebound, six-steal effort during a win over Yeshiva on Saturday, she scored 13 points, and added 10 rebounds and five assists while playing all 40 minutes during a 69-55 win over CSE at Sunday’s Championship Game. She averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and 4.5 steals per game

2007-08 Coach of the Year

Tony Bonavitacola • College of St. Elizabeth

It’s hard to believe it, but only two years ago, the College of Saint  Elizabeth Women’s Basketball program was a virtual non-factor in the HVWAC. The Eagles won only a handful of games that season, and dreams of an HVWAC Championship were few and far between. Enter Tony Bonavitacola, who has led the CSE program through a remarkable transition as the Eagles began the 2007-08 season by winning their first six games, and despite several devastating injuries, CSE still finished the season 16-12 and advanced to the HVWAC Championship Game. Along the way, CSE defeated 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Lehman, and proved to be stiff competition against several of the best programs in the region. For his efforts, Bonavitacola was voted the 2007-08 HVWAC Coach of the Year.
