All-HVIAC Women's Basketball Team Announced; Ellis Named Player of the Year

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of New Rochelle senior Jah-Leah Ellis was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Year as the league announced the members of the All-HVIAC Women's Basketball Team at the conclusion of the 2014-15 HVIAC Tournament at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Ellis, who leads the conference in rebounding and ranks second in scoring, recorded a double-double in every conference game, averaging 17.2 points, 20.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game in HVIAC action. She has 18 double-doubles and currently leads NCAA Division III in rebounds per game. The senior is a seven-time HVIAC Player of the Week honoree and receives All-HVIAC honors for the second straight season. 

St. Joseph's College freshman Destiny Marino and Vaughn College freshman Maia Rivers were selected as Co-Rookies of the Year. Marino averaged 12.2 points per game in conference play for the Lady Bears. The four-time HVIAC Rookie of the Week ranked third on the team in scoring, logging double figure scoring in a team-high 20 games.

Rivers averaged 19.5 points per game, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals in HVIAC games, draining 16 three pointers. The one-time HVIAC Rookie of the Week started every game for the Warriors and tallied nine 20-plus scoring outings.   

In total, 13 women received All-Conference recognition for outstanding play throughout the season with five also tabbed for last year's All-HVIAC squad with three three-time honorees.

St. Joseph's College head coach Frank P. Carbone and The College of New Rochelle head coach Joan Sanchez were selected as the 2015 Co-Coaches of the Year.

The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year are selected by the conference’s women's basketball coaches based on regular season conference play.
