ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences junior Katie Benson (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was named Player of the Year and freshman Emily D'Abrosca (Cumberland, R.I.) was picked as Rookie of the Year as the members of the 2017 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Women’s Soccer Team were announced at the conclusion of the HVIAC Tournament yesterday.
The tandem helped Albany Pharmacy to a 9-4-1 mark overall at the conclusion of the regular season and the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Forward Benson was a three-time Player of the Week selection and the league's Co-Player of the Year in 2015, finished with a league-leading nine goals and two assists in conference play. D'Abrosca, a defender and one-time Rookie of the Week, helped solidify a back line that conceded just four conference goals all season.
SUNY ESF head coach Dan Ramin and The King's College head coach David Foy were named Co-Coaches of the Year. Ramin receives the honor for the third straight year guiding the Mighty Oaks to their first regular season title with a 4-0 mark in league play and an 8-2 mark overall. Foy helped the Lady Lions back to the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed with a level 3-3-1 mark overall through the regular season.
In total, 12 women were honored with the All-HVIAC recognition for outstanding play throughout the regular season and four were repeat winners.
The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year are selected by the conference’s women’s soccer coaches based on regular season conference play.
