SUNY ESF Wins Third Straight Women's Soccer Title

ALBANY, N.Y. — Meeting for the fourth straight year in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship title game, No. 2 seed SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry upended No. 1 seed Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at ACPHS Soccer Field to claim their third straight league title.

With the victory, SUNY ESF claims the conference's automatic bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship held from November 8-12 in Virginia Beach, Va.

Regular-season champion Albany Pharmacy raced past No. 4 seed New Rochelle, 13-0, in the first semifinal and ESF defeated No. 3 King's, 3-0, in a rematch of last year's semifinal to set up the finals showdown.

Similar to their 2-1 double-overtime loss in the regular season, ESF scored early with a Lindsay Eberhart goal just 4:20 into the contest. A close opening 45 saw limited opportunities for both squads and the Oaks carried a 1-0 lead at the intermission. The second stanza saw play open up, with shots 10-3 in favor of the Mighty Oaks, and insurance goals in the 52nd and 65th minutes by Alyssa Hughes and Rachael Truska helped seal their third-straight title.

For her efforts in the midfield leading to no goals surrendered in the tournament, ESF senior Sarah Wohlfahrt was named Tournament MVP.

The Mighty Oaks will await their seeding for the six-team tournament and the Panthers will await a possible at-large berth when the field is announced on Tuesday, October 30 at 4:30 p.m. on theuscaa.com.
