Aksoy Leads Seven Receiving All-HVIAC Women's Tennis Team Honors

FLUSHING, N.Y. — Berkeley College sophomore Ceren Aksoy was named the 2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the league announced the members of the 2015 All-HVIAC Women’s Tennis Team at the conclusion of the HVIAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Aksoy, a two-time Player of the Week, led Berkeley College to their first regular-season and tournament championship where she finished with a 8-1 record in singles play and 3-0 mark in league play.

Berkeley freshman Maria Avila and Pratt freshman Melanie Kania were named the Co-Rookies of the Year. Avila was a three-time Rookie of the Week honoree and maintained a 8-1 singles record this season and teamed up with Aksoy for an 8-1 doubles mark at the top doubles position. Kania, a two-time Rookie of the Week selection, finished 2-1 in conference singles play, primarily playing at the top of the Cannoneers lineup.

Seven women were honored by the conference for outstanding play throughout the season with all but one were underclassmen.

Berkeley College head coach David Eddy was selected as Coach of the Year guiding the Knights to their first conference title with an 8-1 mark overall in just their second season, after going 2-4 last season. 

The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year Awards are selected by the women's tennis coaches in the conference.
