Kania Named Player of the Year as All-HVIAC Women's Tennis Team Announced

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Pratt Institute junior Melanie Kania (Endicott, N.Y.) was named the 2017 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the league announced the members of the 2017 All-HVIAC Women’s Tennis Team at the conclusion of the HVIAC Tournament on Sunday.

Kania was a two-time Player of the Week and was unbeaten against conference opponents in singles and doubles. Teammate Morgan Ferweda (Clio, Mich.) also went undefeated in the No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles positions to take home Rookie of the Year honors.

Seven women were honored by the conference for outstanding play throughout the season. Kania was one of two repeat honorees along with teammate and last year's Player of the Year Amanda Twu.

Pratt Institute head coach David Eddy was selected as Coach of the Year for the third time guiding the Cannoneers to a 5-3 mark overall in the regular season and 2-0 in conference games. 

The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year Awards are selected by the women's tennis coaches in the conference.
