2008 Regular Season & Tournament Champions

St. Joseph's College

2008 Tournament MVP

TAMARA BULATOVIC - St. Joseph’s - Senior - MH - Queens, NY (Grover Cleveland)

If a ‘triple crown’ existed in Volleyball, St. Joseph’s senior Tamara Bulatovic would have earned it during a stellar 2008 season as she led the Lady Bears to their fifth consecutive HVWAC Tournament Championship. During a run that saw St. Joseph’s win its final 15 matches en route to an 18-4 overall record, a run that included eight regular season and post-season 3-0 wins in HVWAC play, Bulatovic led SJC in Kills, Digs, and Blocks, making her perhaps the best triple-threat player in the conference. Bulatovic was particularly impressive during the Nov. 2 HVWAC Championships, leading the Lady Bears to wins over CNR and Sarah Lawrence, and was named Tournament MVP.

2008 Coach of the Year

MATTHEW CRIBBIN - Sarah Lawrence College

In his first year at the Sarah Lawrence helm, Head Coach Matthew Cribbin certainly made an impact as the Gryphons finished in third place in the HVWAC, and advanced to the Championship Match for the first time, ever, after a thrilling 3-2 upset win over Saint Elizabeth in the Nov. 2 Semifinals. While Sarah Lawrence fell to top-seeded St. Joseph’s in the Championship, Cribbin led the Gryphons to a 6-12 overall record that saw the Gryphons finish 3-3 in HVWAC play. For an outstanding season at Sarah Lawrence, Cribbin was voted the 2008 HVWAC Coach of the Year. Cribbins’ accomplishments were particularly impressive considering that the Sarah Lawrence team - after advancing to the HVWAC Semifinals a year ago - featured a roster that included 11 freshmen and sophomores, and only two seniors. With nearly a dozen team members returning in 2009, it would appear that another run to the HVWAC Finals is not out of the question a year from now.
