2009 Regular Season & Tournament Champions

College of New Rochelle

The Blue Angels have been crowned the new queens of HVWAC Volleyball, breaking the five-year stronghold St. Joseph’s held atop the conference.  New Rochelle went undefeated in conference play this season, but the road to the top was not easy – winning three of five regular season conference matches in five sets, reaching the championship game by beating a feisty Medgar Evers team by the narrowest of margins and capturing the title against a Pratt team who played flawlessly to upset Sarah Lawrence in the other semifinal.

2009 Tournament MVP

Patrice Marshall  •  College of New Rochelle •  Junior  •  Brooklyn, NY

Patrice Marshall has been named 2009 HVWAC Tournament MVP helping lead New Rochelle to the HVWAC title.  In the semifinal and championship games, Marshall tallied 32 digs, 10 kills, five aces and a block.  The junior committed only five hitting errors in 53 attempts.

2009 Coach of the Year

Matthew Cribbin  •  Sarah Lawrence College

Sarah Lawrence head coach Matthew Cribbin has been selected as this year’s Volleyball Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers, earning the honor for the second straight year – not bad for a second-year coach.  After leading the Gryphons last season to a .500 record, finishing third in conference and a trip to the championship game, Cribbin improved to a second place finish this season dropping only one match in five-sets to the eventual champion New Rochelle.
