NEW YORK — Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences senior Jessica Monzyk (Lockport, N.Y.) was named HVIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year for the third straight year, leading the 20 women named to the 2016 All-HVIAC Women's Cross Country Team.
Monzyk capped a dominant four-year career winning her fourth straight HVIAC Individual Championship and winning Runner of the Year honors in all three years since the award was instituted. She collected five Runner of the Week honors this season and 16 over her impressive career and is the only four-time All-HVIAC selection. In addition to taking top honors at the Championships, Monzyk also won the Bard College Invitational with a season-best 5K time of 18:33. She also set a new school record in the 4K at Siena College.
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry freshman Eden Zickler was named Rookie of the Year and was the highest placing rookie at the Championships, taking sixth overall. The three-time Rookie of the Week this season showed constant improvement all season and her eighth-place finish at the SUNY Poly 6K race helped the Mighty Oaks to first place.
SUNY ESF Head Coach John View was tabbed the 2016 Coach of the Year, an honor he also received last season.
The HVIAC Runner of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year are selected by the women's cross country coaches in the conference based on outstanding performance during the regular season.
