BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Outscoring their opposition 26-1 and surrendering just two hits on the afternoon, St. Joseph’s College captured their fifth-straight Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Softball Invitational title on Sunday at Mary Levine Field at Sarah Lawrence College.

The Lady Bears (15-17-1) earned a spot in the championship defeating Yeshiva University, 12-0, in the semifinal powered by a combined no-hit effort from All-Conference honorees Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) setting up a matchup against Sarah Lawrence who bypassed The College of New Rochelle in a high-scoring, 18-13, affair in the other semifinal.

In the championship game, the host Gryphons took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lady Bears quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half and never trailed again. St. Joseph’s broke the game open with eight more runs in the next frame and tacked on three more off a Perillo three-run blast in the fourth to round out the scoring.

Perillo was named Tournament MVP batting a perfect 7-for-7 on the afternoon belting two home runs, driving in eight RBI and scoring six times. She also struck out seven, against four walks, in her four innings of work in the circle.

The College of New Rochelle took home third place, defeating Yeshiva University, 16-8 in six innings, in the consolation game.
