BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Pratt Institute senior Melanie Kania (Endicott, N.Y.) was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second straight year as the league announced the members of the 2018 All-HVIAC Women’s Tennis Team at the conclusion of the HVIAC Championship on Sunday.
Kania was a one-time Player of the Week and was unbeaten against conference opponents in singles and doubles. Out of conference, she posted a 5-1 mark at No. 2 singles.
Freshman Amy Young (Vancouver, Canada) also posted an unblemished mark in league play, going 3-0 at No 3 singles and No. 2 doubles and was 6-2 in non-conference singles play.
Seven women were honored by the conference for outstanding play throughout the season. Kania was one of three repeat honorees along with teammate Amanda Twu.
Leading Vaughn College to their second straight runner-up finish, best in team history, Joseph Swierczewski was named Coach of the Year.
The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year Awards are selected by the women's tennis coaches in the conference.
