MILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Jessica Monzyk repeated as the overall individual champion and led five Panthers in the top 15 as Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences captured the 2014 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country championship on Sunday afternoon at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.
Monzyk, a three-time HVIAC Player of the Week this season, covered the 5-kilometer course in 20:23 for a 21-second victory over Yeshiva senior Stephanie Greenberg and leading the field of 49 harriers.
Albany Pharmacy sophomore Julia Lindsay finished in third just five seconds behind Greenberg, senior Michelle Staiger finished in sixth, freshman Katelyn Masullo took 12th and freshman Maura Falli rounded out the scoring five in 15th overall. Panthers head coach Thomas Hartnett repeated as HVIAC Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to their first conference title since 2009.
Pratt Institute senior Kathreen Sterling and junior Claire Jardin finished in fourth and fifth to lead the Cannoneers to a runner-up finish in the team competition, just 14 points behind the Panthers. Last year's champions Yeshiva University finished in third place followed by The College of New Rochelle, The King's College and St. Joseph's College.
