The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team picked up an incredible victory on Wednesday evening, withstanding a late charge from a solid College of New Rochelle team to record a 4-3 overtime victory. The match took place at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY. With the win, the Knights improved to 5-4 on the season, and stayed unblemished in HVIAC competition (3-0). The Blue Angels fell to 7-3 on the 2018 campaign, and 3-1 in conference play.
In what was a battle of two teams who very well could be seeing each other down the road in the HVIAC Tournament Finals, the Knights grabbed a commanding 3-0 in the opening 43 minutes of play. Jean-Gardy Derineau scored at 2:11 (from Tcharly Verna), and Anthony Mejiafound the back of the net at 11:10 (off a cross pass from Ryuji Sugiyama). Amadou Sy capped the first half scoring for Berkeley with an unassisted goal at 42:08. At the half, the Knights led 3-0.
Berkeley held that aforementioned commanding edge until the 74th minute when the College of New Rochelle would suddenly come alive. The Blue Angels' Marcelo Furchi scored an unassisted goal when he would beat Dario Cruz Sepulveda with the ball before blasting it into a wide open net to cut his team's deficit to 3-1. Rolando Oseguera would score unassisted at 82:21 to pull the Blue Angels to within one, and Furchi would once again score at 87:37 to tie the match at three-all. The conference showdown eventually headed to an overtime period.
In the extra session, veteran Omario Rosen scored the game-winner for Berkeley College 98:06.
The Knights out-shot New Rochelle 17-11 on the evening. Dario Cruz Sepulveda made two stops on the evening while allowing the three goals. It was his toughest performance of the season, but it still resulted in a huge Berkeley win. New Rochelle netminder Elijah Robinson made seven saves in a losing effort while giving up the four goals.
Berkeley College has now won four consecutive contests and will look to extend that winning streak to five on Saturday afternoon as the Knights will take to the road to battle Summit University. Start-time is scheduled for 3:00pm.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Blue Angels win streak came to an end on Wednesday as they lost 4-3 in Overtime to conference rival Berkeley College. The Blue Angels now fall to 7-3 on the year and currently are 3-1 in conference play, good enough to keep them at the top of the standings.
The Knights began the game testing the Blue Angels defense with a quick goal in the first two minutes to put them up 1-0. The Blue Angels attempted to hold off the attacks from Berkeley but to no avail as eight minutes later, the Knights put a second goal past the Blue Angel keeper. As the Knights pulled away with a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes, both teams increased the physicality and the intensity as eight fouls, one yellow card, and an ejection occurred over the next 10 minutes.
As the game continued, the Blue Angels attempted an attack of their own as they put up three shots in a three minute span but to no luck as the Berkeley keeper kept the Angels scoreless. The intensity continued to increase as the Blue Angels were nearing a goal but could not get past the keeper as two more ejections were given out before the end of the half.
As the half finished, Berkeley made one final run as the Knights placed a third goal behind the arms of the CNR keeper.
At the start of the second half of the game, the intensity did not waiver as the first five minutes of the second half saw six fouls from both teams with a yellow card given in the 60th minute. The Blue Angels fought hard against the Knights attempting to cut into the deficit and were given the opportunity when freshmen forward, Marcelo Furchi (Mount Vernon, N.Y.), broke away with the ball and passed the goalie to score the first goal for the Blue Angels and his sixth on the campaign.
As New Rochelle broke into the scoring column, they began to show new life and increased energy as the Knights attempted to put a fourth goal on the board. As the Knights shots were taken, sophomore goalie Elijah Robinson (New York), became a brick wall as he stopped every shot the rival Knights were taking. The great defensive effort from the Blue Angles gave them a breakaway opportunity as freshmen Rolando Oseguera (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) placed his team leading ninth goal of the season behind the Berkeley Keeper to bring the score to 3-2
As the ball was placed back in the center, the air was electric around Flowers Park as the CNR fans were up and cheering. A wave of the arms from Marcelo Furchi, made them become even louder as the Blue Angels fought for the ball from the Knights. Only five minutes after the last goal, Furchi got the crowd on their feet as he placed his second goal of the game over the goalies head to tie the game up as the clock expired. For the second consecutive game and the third time this season, the Blue Angels were going into over time
As the over time started, the Blue Angels began their attack as they placed two shots on goal to no avail as the Berkeley keeper kept the score tied. It wasn't until a foul called on the Angels in the box gave the Knights an opportunity to take over the game. And with a Penalty Kick in the 98th minute the Knights ended the Blue Angels win streak and took their win in the first meeting of the conference rivals.
The Blue Angels next game will be Wednesday October 10, against Centenary College.
