BROOKLYN – With third place in on the line, the Falcons came out firing, hitting a trio of three-pointers in the first two minutes and five in the first 6:54 as visiting Davis College outlasted the Pratt Institute 57-44 in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball play Saturday afternoon at the Pratt ARC.

Falcons (8-11, 4-2 HVIAC) guard Jamie Brown led all players with 22 points on 4-8 shooting from distance, and forward Jessica Morgan came off the bench for 11 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes.

For Pratt (6-5, 2-3 HVIAC), Carol Cai (West Covina, CA/Rowland) scored 13 of her team-high 15 points before halftime, in keeping the Cannoneers within striking distance. Freshman forward AimeeLyn Miller (Durfur, OR/Durfur)  knocked down 7-8 free throws for 11 points in 13 minutes in reserve action, and two-time reigning HVIAC Rookie of the Week Amissa Epperson (Jersey City, NJ/McNair) again stuffed the stat sheet, totaling eight points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and five steals.

Bethany Atwood's second three-pointer of the first quarter marked her team's fourth triple and extended Davis' lead to 16-9 midway through the frame. Senior Cindy Griffith joined the act with a trey that upped the lead to 19-11 at the 3:00 mark, and the Falcons held a 22-11 lead after the first on the strength of 5-11 shooting from deep.

After getting the ball inside to the team's freshmen post players, the Cannoneers closed in on the Falcons in the second. Four consecutive points from Miller opened a 10-0 Pratt run closed out by three straight points from Epperson, cutting a 12-point hole to two, 24-22. Closing out on the perimeter, Michael Williams' club limited the Falcons to 0-8 three-point shooting in the second, but an Alainey Banks mid-range jumper gave Davis a 32-26 halftime lead.

The Falcons answered with a 9-0 run in the third that ultimately put the game out of reach. Two Morgan layups opened the run capped by three Morgan free throws, and Davis held Pratt to only three points for the first 9:50 of the period. An Anna Bryce jumper pulled Pratt to within 13 early in the fourth, but her team couldn't get within single digits in Pratt's 57-44 setback.

In all, Davis held Pratt to 22 percent shooting (14-64), including 14 percent (5-35) in the second half. Led by Bryce's 13 rebounds and Epperson's 12, Pratt out-rebounded Davis 58-46.
