HVIAC Players of the Week - October 17

Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Melanie Kania, Pratt

Junior • Endicott, N.Y.

Kania nabs her second Player of the Week honor with an unbeaten 4-0 week at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles against Sarah Lawrence and Mount Saint Mary. 

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Caroline Madden, Pratt

Freshman • Mebane, N.C.

Madden pockets her third Rookie of the Week honor after a 3-1 combined week for Pratt. The freshman went 2-0 in singles play, notching an 8-1 win in the No. 4 position vs. Sarah Lawrence and grinding out a 10-8 triumph at No. 5 vs. Mount Saint Mary.

Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

Imani DeBose, New Rochelle

Sophomore • Outside Hitter • Carson, Calif.

DeBose slammed 31 kills at a .290 clip to lead the Blue Angels to an unblemished week with three straight-set victories, including a pair of wins in league play. She registered 14 kills on .324 hitting in a win over Davis.

Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Brooke Lewandowski, Davis

Sophomore • Buffalo, N.Y.

Lewandowski collects her second Rookie of the Week accolade after a huge week with 24 kills, 34 digs and three blocks over a 2-1 week for Davis. In a five-set win over Pratt, she posted an 11-kill, 21-dig double-double.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week

William Brumbaugh, Culinary

Junior • Midfielder • Houston, Texas

One of the Steels captains, the junior had one goal and two assists over two league wins over Vaughn and Pratt.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Diego Combe, Culinary

Freshman

Combe had three goals and one assist to help lead the Steels to a 2-0 weekend in league play with wins over Vaughn and Pratt.

Men's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week

Meshema Charles, Berkeley

Freshman • Forward • Arendelhill Castries, St. Lucia

Charles netted the game-winner and finished with three goals on just four shots in Berkeley's 4-2 conference win over Vaughn.

Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Molly Mancini, Albany Pharmacy

Junior • Galway, N.Y.

The junior scored the game-winning goal in Albany Pharmacy's come-from-behind 3-1 victory over SUNY Canton.

Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Jaclynn Kelly, King's

Freshman • Midfielder • Orlando, Fla.

The freshman repeats as Rookie of the Week recording a goal and an assist in the Lions' 3-0 win over the University of Valley Forge.

Men's Cross Country Player of the Week

Thomas Sternglass, Pratt

Junior • Brooklyn, N.Y.

Sternglass posted a 5K time of 19:03 at the Caldwell College Chase to help Pratt to a sixth-place team finish.

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Kevin Le, Albany Pharmacy

Freshman • South Burlington, Vt.

Le earns his third weekly award of the season running an 8K in 29:17 at the Green Mountain College Invitational pacing the Panthers to third place in the team competition.

Women's Cross Country Player of the Week

Julia Lindsay, Albany Pharmacy

Senior • Scotia, N.Y.

Lindsay collects her second Player of the Week honor this season after covering the 5K track at the Green Mountain College in 19:37, good for third overall, and pacing the Panthers to the team title.

Women's Cross Country Co-Player of the Week

Alyssa Byndas, Culinary

Sophomore • Milford, Mich.

Byndas finished in second overall among a field of 167 at the St. Joseph's College Invitational, clocking in at 20:00 for the 5K course.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Angela Ospina, Culinary

Sophomore • Lorton, Va.

Ospina bettered her overall 5K time by over five minutes from the start of the season running a career-best 28:50 at the St. Joseph's College Invitational on Saturday.

Honor Roll

Jamie Brown, Davis • Women's Volleyball

Brown came up with 53 digs as the libero over a 2-1 week for Davis. She brought up 29 digs in a five-set win over Pratt. 

Derrell Calloway, Davis • Men's Soccer

A defensive back, Calloway scored his first career goal in the final minute of regulation to send the match against Pratt into overtime and help earn a point for the Falcons.

Emily D'Abrosca, Albany Pharmacy • Women's Soccer

The freshman played a strong defensive game at center back helping the Panthers earn a 3-1 win over SUNY Canton. 

Austin Myers, Albany Pharmacy • Men's Soccer

Myers had a goal and two assists in the Panthers league win over Berkeley.

Micah Paulec, King's • Men's Cross Country

Paulec finished the St. Joseph's Invitational in 33:30. 

Michael Sexton, Culinary • Men's Cross Country

Sexton lowered his time from two weeks ago by nearly two minutes covering the St. Joseph's Invitational in 35:22.

Josiah Simons, King's • Men's Soccer

The sophomore scored his second goal of the game and game-winner in the 81st minute of King's 3-2 win over Valley Forge.

Peg Smith, Pratt • Women's Cross Country

The freshman finished in fifth overall at the Caldwell College Chase with a 5K time of 21:17.
