The proverbial stage is set for the 2022 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Final. This year's Championship will pit #1 seed Five Towns College vs. #2 seed Berkeley College. Kick-off set for 4:00 pm Sunday 10/30/2022 after the Women's Championship.
In semi-final action Five Towns College defeated Word of Life Bible Institute 4-0. The first half seemed to be a struggle for both teams as neither socred in the first 45:00 minutes of play. The second half was controlled by a dominating Five Towns squad.
Two minutes into the second half, Hector Ruiz put the Sound on the board with an unassisted goal and from that point it was Five Towns College until the end. Teammates Angel Chavez, Sebastian Gomez, and Jeff Palacios, netted unassisted goals for the Sound victory.
Huskies Goalie, Raphel Cournoyer, allowed 4 out of 6 shots on goal, saving 2. The Word of Life Bible Institute has made back-to-back semi-finals and hope for their first title in 2023.
The second match brought the same excitement as the first, as #2 seed Berkeley College faced the #3 seed SUNY ESF. What began as a closely contested game, lead to a 3-0 Knights victory. The Knights and Mighty Oaks exchanged shots,with Berkeley College striking first when Erson Gerbeshi connected with a pass from Esteban Pedrueza giving the Knights 1-0 lead at the half. The second half began in a familiar fashion to the first with neither team netting a goal; however, Berkeley College would score twice. An Alex Davidson goal with an assist from Erick Carabantes, and a solo goal from Esteban Pedrueza secured a 3-0 win. SUNY ESF finishes 2022 6-6-1.
