Berkeley College Wins Men's Soccer Championship

A highly anticipated Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship included #1 seeded Five Towns College and # 2 seeded Berkeley College. Both institutions won their semi-final matches to advance to the title game. In a short period of time, these teams have become worthy adversaries and a showdown in the conference finals was a fitting conclusion for the 2022 season.

The Sound would strike first when Angel Chavez would score within the opening 10:00 minutes of play. The Knights seemed to struggle to answer with a goal of their own until the 40:00 minute mark when Michael Paredes would connect with Alex Davidson, tying the game for Berkeley College. As the first half came to a close, the scored deadlocked 1-1, spectators anxiously awaited the second half of an intense match.

Five minutes into the second half of the game, Alex Davidson would scoere for Berkeley College again with an assist from temmate Marcos Hidalgo. Erson Gerbeshi would secure the victory for the Knights with a solo goal with under 4:00 minutes left in the game, giving Berkeley College a 3-1 lead.

Five Towns College Goalie Steven Paguada saved 3 and allowed 3 goals for the Sound. Dawid Mroz allowed 1 and saved 3 for Berkeley College.

The Knights, Alex Davidson was selected as Tournament MVP.

Today's win will automatically qualify Berkeley College for the 2022 USCAA National Soccer Tournament in Mid-November.
