Anders Proft Leads SUNY ESF to Fifth Straight Men's Cross Country Title

MILTON, N.Y. — SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry junior Anders Proft captured the individual title as the Mighty Oaks claimed the 2019 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship with a perfect score on Sunday afternoon at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.

The Mighty Oaks capture their fifth straight league title since joining the conference in 2015, compiling perfect scores in four of those titles.

Proft posted a winning time of 30:23.5 on the 8-kilometer course. Despite being the only full-scoring squad, the Oaks took the first seven positions. Sophomore Oliver Sugarman finished in second place 21 seconds behind Proft in 30:44.2. Rookies Adam Kantor (32:10.6) and Sam Auria (32:22.8) followed closely in third and fourth and senior Alex Henwood capped off the scoring in fifth (32:46.2).

Vaughn College freshman Zachary Fall led the remainder of the field in eighth (37:36.4) and was followed by Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences junior Brett Salvaggio in ninth (38:08.7) and Julio Sanchez of Berkeley College (38:20.1) to round out the top 10.

The championship was originally scheduled for the weekend before but washed out due to heavy rains. The resulting make-up date saw a reduced field of just 17 finishers and three teams.
