St. Joseph's Gist Scores 1,000th Point

BROOKLYN, NY – St. Joseph's College senior guard Justin Gist scored a game-high 23 points against Lehman College last week to join the exclusive 1,000 point career scoring club and led the Bears to a 77-67 victory over the Lighting.

Gist entered the game averaging 15.2 points and needing 17 points to reach the plateau. Gist got off to a slow start, but reached the mark in the first half, with a burst of 13 points in a span of four-and-a-half minutes, capped by a fast-break layup with 1:12 left to reach the milestone.

Gist's 17 first-half points on 7-of-12 shooting also helped the Bears build a 38-28 halftime advantage, which they wouldn't surrender.

The Bears' co-captain has averaged 15.7 points for his career to become the eighth 1,000 point scorer for the Bears in the last 10 years and first since Jon Matzelle last season.

St. Joseph's (7-7) rides a three-game win streak and jumped up four spots to #14 in the latest USCAA Coaches' Poll released yesterday.

The Bears return to action tomorrow on the road facing Brooklyn College at 7:30 p.m.
