NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Davis College freshman Elizabeth Singleton (Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Year as the league announced the members of the All-HVIAC Women's Basketball Team at the start of the 2019 HVIAC Championship at the College of New Rochelle.
The Falcons swept all three major awards with freshman Alison Aten (Streetsboro, Ohio) earning Rookie of the Year honors and Head Coach Larry Ellis and his staff nabbing Coaching Staff of the Year.
A three-time Player of the Week and two-time Rookie of the Week selection, Singleton scored in double-figures in all 20 games of her rookie campaign, reaching 20 points in all but three, highlighted by a 38-point effort at Penn State Hazleton. She averaged 21.0 points and shot 50 percent from the field in conference play also grabbing 8.3 rebounds.
Aten, a three-time Rookie of the Week honoree, averaged 26.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in conference games, highlighted by a 42-point, 10-rebound effort in a win over Vaughn and she also scored a game-high 23 in a win over New Rochelle that subsequently helped clinch the regular season title.
In total, nine women received All-Conference recognition for outstanding play throughout the season and two were repeat honorees.
Leading Falcons to their second straight unblemished regular season title with just three losses overall, Head Coach Ellis, Associate Head Coach Derek Schreiber, and Assistant Coaches Monica Schreiber, Beth Atwood, and Bradley Ellis were named Coaching Staff of the Year.
The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year are selected by the conference’s women's basketball coaches based on regular season conference play.
