Highland Named Player of the Year as All-HVIAC Women's Basketball Team Announced

DIX HILLS, N.Y. — Berkeley College freshman Cierra Highland (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named the 2021-22 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Year as the league announced the members of the All-HVIAC Women's Basketball Team at the start of the HVIAC Championship at Five Towns College.

A one-time Player of the Week and three-time Rookie of the Week, Highland topped the conference in scoring averaging 28 points, and added 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.0 assists for the Knights in league play.

Five Towns College sophomore Jordan Tobin (Massapequa, N.Y.) was named the 2021-22 Rookie of the Year. Named Player of the Week three times and Rookie of the Week twice, Tobin led the league with 14.0 rebounds and was second in scoring (20.0) and steals (3.5).

In total, five women received All-Conference recognition for outstanding play throughout the season. All were first-time honorees.

Leading Five Towns College to the regular-season title and an at-large bid to the USCAA National Championships, Five Towns College head coach Anthony Alfaro and Assistant Coaches Jason Helguero and Navro Allen were named the Coaching Staff of the Year.

The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year are selected by the conference’s women's basketball coaches based on regular-season conference play.
