NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Producing 10 of the 11 event champions, Sarah Lawrence College won their fourth-straight Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Invitational Championship on Sunday morning at the College of New Rochelle Wellness Center.
Twelve Gryphons combined to take home 21 of the 33 available medals finishing with a team score of 136 points. St. Joseph’s College finished in second place with 51 points and the College of New Rochelle rounded out the championship with 14 points.
First-year Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton), sophomore Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), sophomore (Topanga, Calif./La Reina) Ariana Peschke and sophomore Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) paced Sarah Lawrence collecting three gold medals each.
St. Joseph’s College freshman Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary’s) secured the only non-Gryphon gold medal in the 100-yard backstroke.
Pulitano, Summers and St. Joseph’s freshman Tina Wong (Brooklyn, NY/HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) were the leading medal winners, collecting the maximum four medals each.
In ceremonies concluding the championship, the 2012-13 HVWAC All-Conference Team was announced with Bates, Peschke, Pulitano, Summers and Wong all named to the team in addition to Natasha Leonard (Sarah Lawrence), Laura Sonnylal (St. Joseph’s), Milagros Lugo (New Rochelle) and Claudia Benitez (New Rochelle).
