NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Winning nine of 11 events, Sarah Lawrence College captured the 2014 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Women's Swimming Invitational Championship on Sunday morning at The College of New Rochelle Wellness Center.
The Gryphons took home 19 of the 33 available medals en route to their fifth-straight conference title producing a team score of 149 points, a 72-point margin past runner-up St. Joseph's College with 77 points. The College of New Rochelle rounded out the three-team competition with 60 points.
Four Sarah Lawrence swimmers took home four medals led by rookies Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Gabby Risicia (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) who earned gold medals in all four events. Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i/Kealakehe) and Jacquline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) collected three golds each and both added silvers in their other events.
St. Joseph's sophomore Morgan Summers (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Mary's) was the only other swimmer to medal in all four events, also winning gold in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke, the only two events not won by the Gryphons.
In ceremonies concluding the championship, Harley, Risicia and Summers were announced to the 2014 All-Conference Team in addition to Alexis Bates of Sarah Lawrence, Haley Betancourt and Jillian O'Hara of St. Joseph's and Catherine Santivanez, Tina Thomas and Ilsy Rodriquez of New Rochelle.
