The Berkeley College Department of Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of John Guagliardo as the Associate Head Coach of its Women's Soccer program.

Guagliardo joins the Berkeley College athletics staff following a successful tenure at the College of Staten Island, where he served as the institution's Head Women's Soccer Coach for the first 11 years of the program's existence (2004-2014). During his tenure there, the Dolphins compiled an overall record of 116-76-9 (.607 winning percentage) and dominated on a regional level. His success – as well as his passion for the sport of soccer – makes him an excellent addition for Berkeley College.

"I am very pleased to announce the hiring of John Guagliardo as the Associate Head Coach of our Women's Soccer program," Director of Athletics Andy DeStephano said. "John built, developed, and coached a team at the College of Staten Island that was extremely successful over a span of 11 years, and based on his passion and knowledge for the sport, we believe that he has the qualities and tools to make a tremendous impact on our soccer program."

At Staten Island, Guagliardo led the Dolphins to a total of six City University of New York Athletic Conference championships (2004-2008, 2011) and five Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference appearances (2008, 2011-2014). He also paced CSI to back-to-back appearances in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title game (2005 runner-up, 2006 titlist).

Guagliardo's ability to identify and recruit student-athletes is evidenced by his success doing so at Staten Island. During his tenure as the Dolphins' Head Coach, Guagliardo produced five Eastern Regional Division III All-Americans. Additionally, 46 of his student-athletes were tabbed as City University of New York All-Stars over an 11 year span (an average of just over four student-athletes per season).

A coach for over two decades, Guagliardo also served as a coach at Notre Dame Academy High School on Staten Island, where he spent 14 years.  While he was on the staff, the team won multiple division and city championships, and was a state finalist in 2003.  In addition, Guagliardo has guided numerous travel programs, most recently coaching the Staten Island Select Under-17 squad to a semifinal berth in the USA Cup, where the squad fell to eventual-champion team Canada, 1-0.

Guagliardo preaches a family environment and a passion for the game to his student-athletes, and he is excited about bringing that mindset to Berkeley College.

"After my retirement from CSI, I realized that my passion for the game of soccer and commitment to mentoring young adults could not be ignored. I have accepted the job at Berkeley College and welcome the opportunity to finish the job of building a program and elevating it into a regional and national contender. I would like to thank the Director of Athletics, Andy DeStephano, and Berkeley College for entrusting me with this challenge. I believe the key to success begins with trust."
