Women's Tennis: Vaughn 9, Berkeley 0

The Vaughn College women's tennis team ended their regular season with their second victory in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVAIC) on Wednesday, October 10. The Warriors defeated the Berkeley College Knights 9-0. Christina DeLuca (Massapequa, LI),  Grace Davis (Belfast, ME) and Emely Castillo (Bronx,NY) all picked up notable wins against their singles opponents. 

The Warriors will host the HVIAC semi-finals post season game at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Center on Saturday, October 13. They will play the winner of the Berkeley College vs. The College of New Rochelle match scheduled to be played on Friday, October 12.

The Berkeley College women's tennis team dropped a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening, falling to the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 9-0 in a contest that took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. With the loss, the Knights fell to 0-3 overall on the 2018 season, and 0-2 in conference action. The Warriors improved to 2-4 overall, and 2-1 in HVIAC play.

Vaughn College took a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play, winning all three doubles flights. At No. 1, it was Christina DeLuca and Grace Davis scoring a 3-0 (match retired) victory over Berkeley's Zahra Sajid and Hezou Tchendi. The flight finalized early when Tchendi suffered an injury. The Warriors' Cheres Castaneda and Emely Castillo recorded an 8-1 win over the Knights' Hershebed Dorcil and Josolin Fults at No. 2, and Vaughn captured the No. 3 flight by default.

When play switched over to singles, the Warriors won all six flights to account for the 9-0 victory. DeLuca down Dorcil 10-0 at No. 1 singles, and it was Davis silencing Sajid 10-0 at No. 2. No. 4 singles featured Castillo turning back Fults 10-1, and the Warriors won the No's 2, 5, and 6 flights by default.

Berkeley College will look to bounce back Friday evening, as the Knights will take on the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle in another Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The contest will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
