Men's Tennis: Pratt 9, St. Joseph's 0; Pratt 9, Webb 0

BROOKLYN -- The Cannoneers (3-2) opened Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at 2-0 with a pair of shutout victories, blanking both St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and Webb Institute 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Pratt ARC.

Senior Sergio Yarritu topped Kevin Caicedo 10-2 in top singles, with Eli Eskenazi besting Kyle Johnson 10-1 in second singles. Yarritu and Eskenazi paired for an 8-0 shutout of Caicedo and Matt Smith in top singles. 

Junior Fan Mo opened his spring season with a 10-3 win over Nolan Parr, pairing withShane Davis in earning an 8-2 win over Carlos Mayorga and Thomas Kennedy in No. 3 doubles. Joshua Morgan earned his first victory as a Cannoneer, knocking off Mayorga 10-1 in No. 4 singles.

The Cannoneers earned the team's second 9-0 HVIAC win of the day, again led by sizable Yarritu and Eskenazi wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, 10-2 and 10-1, respectively. Mo followed with another third single win, besting Kevin Prichard 10-4, and Nick Minichiello blanked Ben Rockwell 10-0 in fourth singles. 

In fifth singles, Morgan upended Glenn Burnett 10-1, and Shane Davis earned his second 10-4 victory of the day, this time over Andrew Vogler in sixth singles.

As the duo did against St. Joseph's, Yarritu and Eskenazi paired for a quick No. 1 singles victory, shutting out Rockwell and Evan Wingfield 8-0. In second doubles, Morgan and Minichiello knocked off Prichard and Jonathan Hale 8-1. Haotian Zhang earned his first win as a Cannoneer, teaming with Mo for an 8-2 third doubles triumph over Vogler and Will Harris.

Pratt returns to play tomorrow at 1:00, continuing conference play at the Culinary Institute of America, which hosts the Cannoneers at Bard College.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to two-time defending Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Pratt Institute on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt ARC in the Bears 2015 season opener.

Senior Dickson Tan (Brooklyn, NY / East-West School of International Studies) produced the closest match of the afternoon falling 10-4 at No. 6 singles while junior Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) lost at No. 3 singles 10-3.

The Cannoneers (3-2, 2-0) opened conference play collecting a pair of conference wins in sweeps of St. Joseph's and Webb.

The Bears (0-1, 0-1) return to the courts on Wednesday, April 1 against former HVIAC rival and future Skyline Conference rival Sarah Lawrence College at 6:30 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
