Women's Swimming: Sarah Lawrence 114, New Rochelle 69

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons touched the wall first in all 13 events to give Sarah Lawrence College women's swimming a 114-69 victory over College of New Rochelle in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet at Campbell Sports Center on Friday.

Sarah Lawrence (4-1, 1-0 HVIAC) kicked off the meet with a first-second finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Dzana Ashworth (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School)Julia Aurik (Brussels, Belgium/International School of Brussels)Jay Pulitano (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and Jaime Chu (Hong Kong/Monte Vista) combined to win the event in 2:23.90. A half-second behind, Sam Amberchan (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton), Cici Nicholson, Colette Harley(Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Geneva Baldauf (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) placed second in 2:24.40.

Junior Alexis Bates (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) won the 1000 freestyle in 12:25.54, followed by Sky Mihaylo (Albany, Ore./West Albany) in 15:54.97, more than two minutes ahead of the closest Blue Angel.

HVIAC Swimmer of the Week Pulitano picked up another win by taking the 200 yard freestyle by a 10-second margin. In the next race, Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) (27.72) and Chu (32.19) finished one-two in the 50 free.

HVIAC Rookie of the Week Harley (2:34.96) joined Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) (2:43.64) and Natasha Leonard (Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i/Kealakehe) (2:52.60) to sweep the 200 yard individual medley and give the Green and White 16 more points.

Amberchan (1:11.20) and Pulitano (1:18.70) secured the top spots in the 100 butterfly, while Harley (1:01.54) and Quirk (1:03.15) were the first two swimmers to complete the 100 freestyle. In the 100 backstroke, Risica (1:11.29) and Aurik (1:24.02) took top honors to round out the SLC scoring and clinch the team victory.

Trailing 114-33, College of New Rochelle (0-5, 0-1 HVIAC) closed the gap with 36 points in the evening's final three events.
Bates posted the fastest time in the 500 yard freestyle (6:06.39), while Nicholson (7:21.22) and Mihaylo (7:51.88) recorded the next two times.  Alayna Bone (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) (1:27.15) and Leonard (1:29.35) were the first two entries to finish the 100 breaststroke.

In the day's final race, Quirk, Leonard, Bates and Risica posted a time of 1:57.00 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Sarah Lawrence now prepares for the 2013 Ranger Invitational, hosted by Drew University, December 6-8, at F.M. Kirby Pool in Madison, N.J.
