Men's Volleyball: Yeshiva 3, Pratt 0

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team picked up its third win in a row as the Maccabees beat Pratt Institute 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Thursday evening.
 
The win by Yeshiva improves its overall record to 5-10, and the Maccabees are now 2-1 in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) play. Pratt Institute falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the HVIAC.
 
Yeshiva was led by Kolya Miller with 10 kills and eight digs, while Tuvia Marks had eight kills and one block assist. Eliakim Gartenberg added five kills and five total blocks, while Joseph Lipton had a great all-around match with eight kills, three assists, 20 digs, two blocks and a service ace.Mishael Miller added 11 digs, while Jorge Dabah had 28 assists.
 
Pratt Institute was led by David Cutler with 10 kills and 22 digs.
 
In the first set, the Maccabees scored the first four points and led the entire match. Yeshiva extended its lead to 19-4 during the opening set, before Pratt rallied off several points later in the set to make it closer.  Yeshiva still led big and was up 23-8 before the visiting Cannoneers rallied off seven in a row to make the score 23-15 before Yeshiva finished off the set with the final two points.
 
In the second set, the lead went back-and-forth early on. But the Maccabees broke a 5-5 tie by scoring eight of the next 10 points, and Yeshiva led 13-7 en route to the win.
 
In the third set, the score changed hands a few times as well. The Maccabees took the lead for good by overcoming a 7-6 deficit with three straight points to make the score 9-7 in favor of Yeshiva. The Maccabees then gradually pulled away late and finished off the sweep.
 
Yeshiva is back in action on Tuesday for a match at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at 8 p.m.
