Women's Soccer Semifinal: Albany Pharmacy 3, Yeshiva 0

Albany, NY – The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Women's Soccer Team hosted the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Semifinal Match on Sunday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the ACPHS Track & Field. The contest featured the #1 seeded Panthers vs. the #4 seed Yeshiva University Maccabees. The match also was the final home game for seniors Sarah Cope, Joanna Douglas, Colleen Quartararo, Jess Alger and Chelsea Guyette.

On a cold and rainy day, ACPHS came out of the gates strong and controlled much of the play in the Maccabees zone. Unfortunately, the Panthers offense was met by the strong defensive line of Yeshiva. At the end of the first half the score was knotted at 0-0. As the second half began, ACPHS continued to apply pressure and finally found the back of the net at 27:01 remaining when Katie Parsels scored. The Panthers scored twice more on goals byAshley Salsedo and another by Katie Parsels to post a commanding 3-0 lead. At the sound of the final horn, the Panthers earned the "w" and a berth in the HVIAC Championship on Sunday, November 2.

ALBANY, N.Y.— Behind tremendous play by starting goalkeeper Annie Jaffe, the Yeshiva University women's soccer team, the No. 4 seed, fought valiantly before letting in three second half goals to lose 3-0 to top seeded Albany College of Pharmacy in the semifinal round of the 2014 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) women's soccer championship.
 
With the loss, Yeshiva has been eliminated from tournament play and falls to 2-11 overall, while Albany College of Pharmacy is now 10-4 and will play for the HVIAC championship next Sunday.
 
Jaffe made 25 saves for the Maccabees, including 14 in the first half as the game was deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime.
 
In the second half, the host Panthers broke through for three goals in the second half en route to advancing. Albany-Pharmacy broke the scoreless tie at 62:47 on a goal by Katie Parsels, before taking a 2-0 lead at 71:03 on a goal by Ashley Salsedo. Then at 73:42, the Panthers went ahead 3-0 when Parsels netted her second goal of the game.
 
Albany-Pharmacy fired 55 total shots at the Yeshiva net, including 26 in the first half and 29 in the second half. The Panthers also took 17 corner kicks in the match.
 
Yeshiva will wrap up its 2014 campaign with two regular season games. The Maccabees next match is Thursday against Medgar Evers College at Old Boys High School at 4 p.m.
