Women's Tennis: Pratt 9, Vaughn 0

BROOKLYN, NY –  The Pratt Institute women's tennis team defeated the Warriors of Vaughn College, 9-0, to win their opening Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Pratt improves their overall record to 2-3, while Vaughn falls to 0-2.

As play began, the tandem of Amanda Twu and Melanie Kania set the pace for Pratt, taking No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-0. Cory Marks and Morgan Ferweda, paired together for the first time, found a rhythm and took the match, 8-3. Huize Wu and Ivy Fu would take the final doubles flight, 8-2, as Pratt held a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.

In No. 1 singles, Amanda Twu set the tone, defeating Vaughn's Maia Rivers 10-1. Melanie Kania, the reigning HVIAC Player of the Week, earned the win in No. 2 singles, 10-1, while Cory Mark and Morgan Ferweda were victorious in their matches at No.3 (10-2) and No.4 singles (10-1), respectively. Riding the momentum from their doubles win, Ivy Fu and Huize Wu completed the sweep for the Cannoneers by posting identical 10-0 victories in the final two singles matches.

Up Next: The Cannoneers continue their conference slate next Saturday as they welcome the Blue Angels from New Rochelle to the Pratt ARC. First serve is scheduled for noon.
