Women's Volleyball: Pratt 3, King's 0

BROOKLYN – Pratt Institute improved to 8-2 (2-0 HVIAC) and snapped a two-match slide with a 3-0 win over The King's College in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball play Thursday night at the ARC.

Cannoneers outside hitter Marlena Todd led all players with 11 kills and a .348 attack percentage, and fellow freshman Talya Polat finished with match bests of 20 set assists and three service aces.

Back-to-back kills from Rachel Goatley and Charlotte Burch extended Pratt's Game 1 lead to eight at 20-12. A 4-0 King's run pulled the visitors to within five at 21-16, but a Burch kill and Patricia Morales service ace capped Pratt's 25-17 win.

Goatley's block assist followed by her kill sent Pratt out to a 6-2 lead in Game 2.Hannah Calderwood's solo block upped the margin to 12-5. Another of Burch's seven kills extended the lead to 21-13, and the Cannoneers coasted to a 25-14 victory.

Two of Polat's three aces came in a 5-0 run that opened the third set. Pratt mounted its first 10-point lead at 16-6 on a Goatley kill. Leading by 10 at 24-14, a Julia Kubak kill closed out an 11-point Game 3 win.

Goatley and Kubak finished with six kills each as Pratt hit .185 as a team. Calderwood totaled three blocks at the net, and Joan Wyeth's 15 digs were a match high as King's hit only .012 as a team.

At 8-2, the Cannoneers return to play on Saturday at the University of St. Joseph (CT), where Pratt will also take on St. Joseph's College (ME), both of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
