BINGHAMPTON, NY -  The College of New Rochelle Women's Volleyball team claimed its third consecutive Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title Saturday afternoon when it defeated both Davis College and Pratt Institute in a league tri-match held at Davis.  With the win, CNR will be the top seed at the upcoming HVIAC Womens Volleyball Championships held at New Rochelle.  CNR now stands at 4-0 in the league and 18-9 overall.

The Blue Angels defeated both the Cannoneers and the Falcons by 3-0 scores.  In the opener against Pratt 25-20, 25-20, and 25-9.  In the finale, they swept the hosts easily by a 25-11, 25-23, 25-8.

CNR's freshmen hitting pair of Imani Debose (Carson, CA) and Cristal Liciaga (San Juan, PR)combined for 18 and 12 kills, respectively in the two matches.

The match against Pratt was error plagued by the Cannoneers (hitting -.191 and making 20 receiving errors), resulting in CNR having only nine assists and 18 digs, both season lows - due to the lack of Pratt's attacking game.  CNR racked up 20 service aces.

Against Davis, senior Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) racked up 24 assists to lead the Blue Angels.  CNR added nine more aces.

The Blue Angels will be the #1 seed in next Saturdays HVIAC Championship and will host Davis at 2:00pm.  Culinary Institute (#3) and Pratt (#2) will play in the other semi-final at 4:00pm. The final will commence at 6:15.  CNR is the two-time defending champion.

JOHNSON CITY, NY – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team scored a come-from-behind win over hosting Davis College in five sets before falling to the College of New Rochelle in straight sets at the Davis College Tri-Match Saturday afternoon.

Senior Hannah Calderwood (Clinton, WA/South Whidbey) paced the Cannoneers, tallying 17 kills and defending 14 digs over the two matches. The middle hitter also notched eight blocks on the afternoon and recorded her fourth career double-double against Davis.

Senior Charlotte Burch (Lawrence, KS/Bishop Seabury) combined for eight kills and four aces on the afternoon and classmate Joan Wyeth (Ivoryton, CT/Valley Regional) notched seven kills and defended 21 digs.

"Playing without several key players, some players were given an opportunity to rise to the occasion and they did just that to earn a split," said head coach Louis Sepulveda. "Our players played with passion and heart to beat Davis in five and then gave New Rochelle a good scare."

The tri-match split gave the Cannoneers the number two seed in the upcoming Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.
