Beniquez Selected as Player of the Year as 2019 All-HVIAC Women's Volleyball Team Announced

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— Pratt Institue junior Paola Beniquez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) has been selected as the 2019 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the 2019 All-HVIAC Women's Volleyball Team was announced at the end of the HVIAC Championship at the Pratt Activity Resource Center on Sunday afternoon.

A two-time Player of the Week, Beniquez led the conference with a .258 hitting percentage averaging 1.83 kills per set and her 1.00 service aces per set also topped the league.

The King's College freshman Alex Kemsley (Austin, Texas) was selected as Rookie of the Year. The rookie middle hitter led the league with 3.06 kills per set and finished just behind Beniquez in efficiency with a .203 hitting percentage, securing one Rookie of the Week honor this season.

Pratt Institute and The King's College were named Co-Coaching Staffs of the Year. Luis Sepulveda, Chris Schortgen, and Veronika Kostova led the Cannoneers to the regular-season title, while Grace Croley and Richard Christensen guided the Lions to their first-ever Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.

In total, seven women were honored with All-HVIAC recognition for outstanding play during the regular season.

The HVIAC All-Conference Team, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year were selected by the conference's head women's volleyball coaches prior to the tournament.
