The Berkeley College (NY) men's soccer team picked up their first victory of the 2014 campaign on Wednesday evening, turning back the Lions of King's College by a score of 7-0 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the win, the Knights improved to 1-1 on the season (1-0 HVIAC), while the Lions fell to 0-1 (0-1 HVIAC).

The Knights bounced back in a big way following Friday evening's 8-0 season-opening defeat at the hands of FDU-Florham, as Berkeley College scored goals on seven of their 15 shot attempts on the evening. Standout Shonoray Ryan put forth a memorable effort, netting three goals while also tallying an assist. Harold Akawor added a goal and three assists as well, and Haakon Schelderup contributed with a goal and an assist.

The game was scoreless for the opening 30 minutes, before the Knights' Pablo Carrionreceived a pass from Ryan and netted a goal in the 31st minute to give his team a 1-0 advantage. Six minutes later, Ryan buried a ball into the back of the net to increase Berkeley College's lead to 2-0, with Schjelderup picking up the assist on the score. At the half, the Knights held a two goal lead.

In the second stanza, the Knights scored a flurry of goals, netting five tallies in a span of 28 minutes to run away with the game. Ryan's second and third goals of the night came at the 51:00 and 63:00 marks, respectively. Mathias Valle added a goal of his own at the 64th minute, and Schjelderup and Akawor closed out the scoring with tallies in the 75th and 79th minutes, respectively.

It was an easy day the office for Berkeley College netminder Renzo Loaiza, as he only needed to make one save in recording his first shutout of the season. The Lions were only able to manage seven total shots for the night.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday evening, September 13, as Berkeley will play host to Central Penn at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 5:30pm.
