Men's Soccer: Vaughn 4, King's 1

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – On Saturday, September 20, the men's soccer team started off the 2014-2015 season with an important Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Conference (HVIAC) match-up against the King's College Lions. The Warriors were very aggressive in the first half, outshooting the Lions 17-10. Senior Haider Al-Zubaidy (Bronx, NY) scored the first goal of the game at the 11:21 mark in the first half, off of a beautiful assist from Juan Ramirez (East Hampton, NY).  Forward Julian Mero (Randolph, NJ) tacked on two more goals in the first half to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead over the Lions heading into the second period.

King's College got on the score board at the 51:36 mark in the second half with an unassisted goal by Zach Adams. The Lions outshot the Warriors in the second half 10-7 but had difficulty getting clean looks at the goal.

Sophomore goal keeper Ahmed Aly (Astoria, NY) had 10 saves for the Warriors to help protect their 3-1 lead over the Lions. Karim Haragi (Sunnyside, NY) put the game out of reach, scoring the fourth goal for the Warriors in the 77th minute.

The Warriors defeated the King's College Lions with a final score of 4-1. The  Warriors can next be seen at a non-conference match-up against SUNY Maritime. The game will be played at SUNY Maritime on Friday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m.
